Blue Ridge Baking Company was started in 2007 by Greg Comforto, a native New Yorker who there discovered his love of bagels. His love of bagels inspired him to become a bagel baker in Oregon and then in Crozet, Virginia. An avowed vegan, environmentalist, and self-described hippie, Greg saw the need for treats made from locally sourced ingredients and opened Blue Ridge Baking Company.
The area community– including the college campus communities of The University of Virginia and James Madison University– soon fell in love with his unique recipes.
In 2015, Greg partnered with Margaret Jones Kilmartin to bring the bakery to a broader audience. Greg took his leave in early 2016 and built a tiny house for himself, and two more for his kids on a nice patch of land in Louisa County, Virginia.
Today the Blue Ridge Baking Company continues to delight our original customers, as well as befriending new ones throughout the US each day. We offer wholesale product to local grocers, cafe's, wineries, breweries, and offer online ordering of portions of our product line, as well as fundraising partnerships to help our local communities.
Margaret and the Blue Ridge Baking Company team have been expanding the brand and opened a Store Front location in June of 2023, offering goodies and light fare to our sweet town of Middletown, VA.
